Below are example poems from the book….
Rivulets
The men came down, leaning into the rain
That fell in back droplets from their coal-grimed faces.
Eyes rubbed clear by fists;
Giant pandas in negative;
They trudged on like the doomed species they were;
Black from the last shift to the tin-bath terraces that were home.
Defeated and subdued now after all the struggle,
Every man was lost in his own thoughts;
And yes, there was many a clean tear amongst the rivulets.
In A Midnight Field
In a midnight field she stared at the moon,
And somewhere a long way off a fox screamed like a frightened child,
Through eyes blurred by bitter tears she stared;
Wondering why she had to yield her love so soon to another’s freedom
A captive heart released once more into the wild.
The Great Work
Awaken!
Awaken!
Come with me now and together let us journey on towards Jerusalem!
For it is nearly dawn and we must be away far beyond that glowing horizon.
To where the Great Work shall soon begin that will surely endure forever.
So come!
So come!
